solo: An Exhibition by Danni Schwaag

solo: An Exhibition by Danni Schwaag offered a look at Schwaag's practice through completed works, sketchbooks, screenprints, photos, and performance video. solo focused on various bodies of Schwaag’s current body of work, including genderstars, a series of galalith earrings and pins built from the typographic gender asterisk - the typographic symbol adopted to write inclusively across all genders, now a politically contested and even banned symbol in parts of Germany - and reclaims it as wearable earrings and pins, with playful variations on the asterisk's rays crafted in colorful galalith to celebrate gender diversity. And solo/–movement, sculptural objects and screenprints drawing on Schwaag’s interest in materiality and movement, translating and inspired by the shapes and movement of Oskar Schlemmer's 1920s Bauhaus Triadic Ballet. Each body of work traced how Schwaag’s work moves between social commentary and material experimentation.
